Indamixx 2 Atom-powered MeeGo tablet touts rockstar looks, $999 price tag
The creators say that they chose MeeGo due to its fondness of multitouch inputs, and based on the videos we've seen of it running, it definitely looks like a wise choice. Moreover, those looking to use this for more traditional tasks will be thrilled to know that they still can, and considering that it's Linux underneath, the limits are near-endless when it comes to tweaking options. For those in no position to wait for the final build, you can hit the source link in order to snag "beta hardware" for $999; we're hoping that those who wait will be treated to far more sensible pricing, but there's no question that we're intrigued either way. Hop on past the break to see this bad boy get down.Continue reading Indamixx 2 Atom-powered MeeGo tablet touts rockstar looks, $999 price tagIndamixx 2 Atom-powered MeeGo tablet touts rockstar looks, $999 price tag originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 06 Nov 2010 12:20:00 EDT. Google ?Nexus Two? Hardware Issue Delays Launch
The fact that the device will have a clean version of Android is why people are excited about the device, and calling it the "Nexus Two." The Nexus One was a clean install Android device that Google sold directly to customers. The additional layers of software carriers and handset manufacturers put on their phones are generally a mess, in our opinion, and detract from the user experience.

As Buzz Sounds More Like Crickets, Does Google Need To Be More Patient?
Like Wave, Buzzlaunched with much fanfare in February of this year. But unlike Wave, Buzz was available to many users right of the box, and instead it was security issues and misunderstandings that led to its initial stumbles. The Buzz team worked quickly to smooth those out, but now the service has a much more serious issue: indifference.

iPhone DST bug causing alarms to fail across Europe (updated)
Update: Deleting and re-adding the alarms will NOT fix the issue. We've now tested a number of scenarios under iOS 4.1 on European iPhone 4 and 3GS devices for ourselves. The bug (demoed on video after the break by Roman) appears when using a repeating alarm for anything other than "every day." So for example, your alarm will go off an hour late if it's set for "weekdays," or "weekends," or every "Monday." The following alarms are not affected by the bug:
An alarm that doesn't repeat (repeat set to "never")
An alarm set to repeat "every day"
You can test yourself by creating a repeating alarm (but not every day) to go off one minute in the future and 59 minutes in the past.
Update 2: Some US readers are now waking up to alarms reportedly going off an hour early.

Windows Live Spaces Bloggers: WordPress Is Nigh
"This morning in San Francisco at TechCrunch Disrupt, Windows Live and WordPress.com announced that WordPress.com will become the default blogging platform of choice for all new and existing Windows Live customers," a Microsoft spokesperson e-mailed me this morning. "Windows Live Spaces users will have the option starting Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, to migrate their blogs to WordPress.com."
That spokesperson promised that migrating to WordPress will be "automated and easy." Users visiting their Spaces will see a user-friendly interface for transferring their assets to the new blogging platform. For those with a tendency to procrastinate: Microsoft's reportedly allowing a six-month window for the transition before it vaporizes Spaces and any remaining content.
For its part, Microsoft is framing the WordPress partnership as the path of least resistance.
"WordPress powers over 8.5 percent of the Web, is used on over 26 million sites, and WordPress.com is seen by over 250 million people each month," Dharmesh Mehta, director of Windows Live Product Management, wrote in a Sept. 27 posting on The Windows Blog. "So rather than having Windows Live invest in a competing blogging service, we decided the best thing we could do for our customers was to give them a great blogging solution through WordPress.com."
Microsoft and WordPress have been linking their services in other ways. Via Messenger Connect, users can push their WordPress.com postings (re: scary rants) on to their Messenger friends. And with the release of Windows Live Essentials 2011, Windows Live Writer will have the ability to access WordPress as a default blogging solution.

Nokia's Savander: 'the Symbian Foundation will exist as an open source movement and we will use it'
"I don't see any reason for that. What would be the benefit of doing that? We have made it open source, so it's, of course, up to the different users whether they want to use it. The whole notion behind the open-source community is that people can choose to leave or not to leave. We have quite a few Japanese vendors that are pushing Symbian products. The Symbian Foundation will exist as an open source movement and we will use it. Other people are welcome to use it if they want to. If they don't, that's not going to change things. That's how open source works."
So Nokia's public-facing philosophy seems to be that they don't care who -- if anyone -- uses Symbian, they're going to continue to let the Foundation do its thing. Meanwhile, another part of the interview highlights the fact that they're still planning to continue to drive Symbian downmarket. Obviously, Nokia's internal roadmap could differ significantly from Savander's message, but so far, we don't have any hint from these guys that changes are afoot. That said, the Foundation's funding situation could force Nokia to take action if it wants the platform to continue to develop and evolve, but we suppose we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Another interesting tidbit in the interview highlights the fact that one of new Nokia CEO Stephen Elop's edicts has been to significantly reduce the amount of time between a product's announcement and its release, which might be the driving force behind his decision to push the introduction of Nokia's first MeeGo products into 2011. As much as we hate waiting, we'd say that's a stellar direction for the company to take -- nothing builds animosity toward a product more than letting it waste away in a purgatory of unattainability (assuming your name isn't Eldar Murtazin) for six-plus months.Nokia's Savander: 'the Symbian Foundation will exist as an open source movement and we will use it' originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 26 Oct 2010 15:36:00 EDT.
